GUIDE: Yellow fever Vaccine






WHAT IS YELLOW FEVER?

          Yellow fever is a serious, potentially deadly flu-like disease spread by mosquitoes. It’s characterized by a high fever and jaundice. Jaundice is yellowing of the skin and eyes, which is why this disease is called yellow fever. This disease is most prevalent in certain parts of Africa and South America. It isn’t curable, but you can prevent it with the yellow fever vaccine.



Yellow fever develops quickly, with symptoms occurring three to six days after exposure. The initial symptoms of the infection are similar to those of the influenza virus. They include:
  • headaches
  • muscle aches
  • joint aches
  • chills
  • fever

Who Is at Risk for Yellow Fever?

Those who haven’t been vaccinated for yellow fever and who live in areas populated by infected mosquitoes are at risk. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 200,000 people become infected each year. Most cases occur in 32 countries in Africa, including Rwanda and Sierra Leone, and in 13 countries in Latin America, including:

  • Bolivia
  • Brazil
  • Colombia
  • Ecuador
  • Peru
Yellow fever don't have medicine for cure but it can be prevented thru vaccination.

Getting a yellow fever vaccine is easy as 123 here is the step.
1.       Approach the guard on the gate and tell him that you are intended for yellow fever vaccine and  if its your first time or for renewal ( there is a different form for renewal and first timers).

2.       The guard will give you a number

3.       Proceed to step 1 Fill out the forms

4.       Wait for your number to be called

5.       Note: *First timers will be accommodated first before those who will renew their vaccine card

6.       Then 2nd step Initial Interview ( they will ask you if you have history of asthma, Vaccination for last 7 days, have you eaten, what vaccine you will avail,etc)

7.       Proceed to step 3 injecting the vaccine

Tip: if you are right handed let your left upper arm to be injected by vaccine, if you are left handed let your right hand be injected. The injected area should not carry heavy things the result will be bleeding

8.       Step 4 Payment . Pay at the cashier. 

                 

9.       Step 5 wait for your name to be called for encoding
Note: there is a mirror screen, double check your NAME and birthday.

10.   Done!
